The Super Eagles are lined up to face Venezuela in an international friendly at the Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, Texas, on Friday, November 14, 2025, Bold Sports reports.
American Major League (MLS) side Houston Dynamo announced the friendly which will be played in their stadium on their website on Wednesday, although the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has yet to issue an official confirmation. When contacted by Bold Sports, the NFF’s Director of Media & Communications, Ademola Olajire, said: “I am not aware of this yet. Will let you know once I have confirmation.”
If finalised, the encounter will mark Nigeria’s first return to Houston since May 31, 2013, when they played Mexico to a 2-2 draw shortly after winning the Africa Cup of Nations. It will also be their debut appearance at Shell Energy Stadium.
The Super Eagles head into the proposed friendly with their World Cup qualification hopes still in the balance. Nigeria sit third in Group C of the CAF qualifiers after defeating Rwanda 1-0 on September 6 and drawing 1-1 with group leaders South Africa on September 9. With two matches left in October, the race for one of Africa’s nine automatic tickets remains almost out of Nigeria’s reach.
For Venezuela, the match provides a chance to regroup after closing their own qualifying campaign with defeats to Argentina (3-0) and Colombia (6-3). La Vinotinto last played in Houston on March 24, 2024, when they were held to a goalless draw by Guatemala.
The two countries last met on November 14, 2012, in Miami, where Nigeria claimed a 3-1 victory thanks to goals from Brown Ideye, Nosa Igiebor, and Ogenyi Onazi.
Tickets for the game go on pre-sale to Houston Dynamo and Dash season ticket holders on Wednesday, September 10, before general sales open via SeatGeek the following day.
Super Falcons defender Michelle Alozie plays in the stadium for National Women Soccer League (NWSL) side Houston Dash.
