The Super Eagles dropped to 38th in the latest ranking released by the World football governing body FIFA on Thursday.
The ranking showed that the Nigerian national team dropped eight places from the 30th position they ranked in April.
Within the ranking period, the Eagles played two 2026 World Cup qualifiers, drawing 1-1 with South Africa in Uyo and losing 2-1 to Benin Republic in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
They also dropped to the fifth-best team in Africa.
The top three in the world remained unchanged, with Argentina, France, and Belgium respectively, while Brazil moved up one place, replacing England – now fifth – in fourth.
Portugal, Netherlands, and Spain also remained unchanged in sixth, seventh, and eighth respectively, while Croatia moved up one place to ninth, leaving Italy – who are presently defending their European title – in 10th.
In Africa, 2022 World Cup semi-finalists Morocco maintain their top status in the continent, moving up one place to joint 12th in the World, while Senegal who are second on the continent, dropped one place on the global ranking to 18th.
Egypt are up one place to 36th in the world and third on the continent while the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations winners, Ivory Coast, are up one place to 37th in the world and fourth in Africa ahead of Nigeria in fifth.
Liberia are the biggest climbers in the world, going up 10 places and amassing +37.47 points to rank 142nd, while Equatorial Guinea had the biggest drop, going down 10 places and losing 47.53 points to rank 89th in the world.
The next ranking will be released on July 18.
