Semi Ojeleye has been named the Most Valuable Player of the 2022 Italian Lega Basket Serie A SuperCup after his team Virtus Bologna edged Dinamo Sassari 72-69 on Thursday.
Ojeleye who joined Bologna in July on a two-year deal has adapted quickly to life in Italy and was the star performer for his side in the semi-final where they beat Olympia Milano 72-64 in overtime to qualify for the 2022 Italian SuperCup Final. Ojeleye scored 17 points in that game and was also one of the best players for Bologna in the final.
His performance led to him being named the MVP of the competition ahead of last season’s MVP Chinanu Onuaku who scored 18 points, nine rebounds, and four assists shooting 6/7 from two and 6/6 at the free throw line.
Ojeleye, a five-year NBA veteran joined Bologna in July after being waived by the Los Angeles Clippers in May. The 27-year-old was a second round 34th overall selection by the Boston Celtics in the 2017 NBA draft. He played four seasons with the C’s but was unable to hold down a regular starting berth on the roster. He joined the Milwaukee Bucks before being traded to the Clippers.
Ojeleye averaged 3.4 points per game, 2.2 rebounds per game and 0.4 assists per game in the NBA.
