…Samuel Ogazi’s NCAA record run boosts Nigeria’s sprinting profile
Nigerian sprint sensation Samuel Ogazi delivered a historic performance at the NCAA Track and Field Championships, shattering the men’s 400m record with a stunning time of 43.38 seconds.
Representing the University of Alabama, Ogazi eclipsed the previous NCAA record of 43.61 seconds set by Michael Norman in 2018, lowering the mark by an impressive 0.23 seconds.
The remarkable run not only secured the NCAA title but also propelled Ogazi to fourth place on the all-time world list in the event, cementing his status as one of the fastest quarter-milers in history.

The race itself was one for the record books. Jonathan Simms of the University of Georgia finished second in 43.92 seconds, making it only the third time in NCAA history that two athletes have broken the 44-second barrier in the same 400m race.
Ogazi’s record-breaking performance continues a meteoric rise for the Nigerian star, who has emerged as one of the leading contenders on the global stage ahead of upcoming international competitions.
The 20-year-old’s achievement marks another significant milestone for Nigerian athletics and further highlights the country’s growing influence in world sprinting.
