Bayer Leverkusen striker Patrik Schick has expressed his desire to play alongside Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface more frequently, rather than the two taking turns as backups for each other.
Despite several key departures from the club this summer, including Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Jonathan Tah, Odilon Kossounou, and Gustavo Puerta, both Boniface and Schick are expected to remain at the BayArena.
Leverkusen, who made history by becoming the first team to win the Bundesliga unbeaten in the 2023/24 season, also bid farewell to manager Xabi Alonso, who left for Real Madrid. He has been replaced by former Manchester United and Ajax manager Erik ten Hag.
Reflecting on last season, Patrik Schick, who netted 27 goals in 45 appearances across all competitions, believes his partnership with Boniface was underutilized.

“In my point of view, we should have played more together, especially last season,” Schick said. “We have different qualities, and that combination could work well together.”
Boniface, meanwhile, has been the subject of interest from top European clubs including AC Milan and Manchester United. However, the Nigerian forward has reiterated his commitment to Leverkusen, stating he is fully focused on staying at the club and earning his place in the starting XI.
With a new manager and a reshuffled squad, the prospect of a Schick–Boniface partnership could become a central part of Leverkusen’s attacking setup for the 2024/25 season.
