Brentford midfielder Frank Onyeka could be on the move this January, with the Premier League club open to either selling or loaning out the Nigerian international amid uncertainty over his role at the club, Bold Sports reports.

The 28-year-old has been in action for Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where he made four appearances as the Super Eagles enjoyed an impressive tournament. Onyeka was part of the squad that clinched the bronze medal after a victory over Egypt in Saturday’s third-place playoff, rounding off a positive international campaign.

Attention has now shifted back to his club future, which appears increasingly unclear. Onyeka, who spent last season on loan at Bundesliga side Augsburg, has struggled for regular minutes since returning to Brentford. He has featured in just nine matches across all competitions this season and is yet to make a Premier League start, falling short of the prominent role he is believed to be seeking.

Brentford coach Keith Andrews acknowledged the midfielder’s situation, admitting he understands his desire for more consistent playing time. “I know Frank is keen to play football more regularly than he has and I completely understand that,” Andrews said.

Despite Onyeka’s limited involvement, Brentford have enjoyed a strong campaign so far. The Bees are currently seventh in the Premier League with 33 points, although their six-match unbeaten run across all competitions came to an end with a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday.

In the ongoing January transfer window, Brentford have so far only added Nigerian-eligible youngster Kaye Furo from Club Brugge. When asked about the possibility of further business, Andrews remained non-committal, stressing his confidence in the current squad.

“I would rather focus on what I have and focus on my players. I have a lot of belief in my players,” he said. “Equally, if we feel a deal is right and we could add to the group then we would do that.”

With Onyeka eager for more minutes and Brentford open to offers, the coming weeks could prove decisive in determining the midfielder’s next move.
