Enugu Rangers have been hit with heavy sanctions by the Nigeria Pemier Football League following disciplinary issues recorded during their recent home fixture, Bold Sports report.
The incident in question occurred on April 5, 2026, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, where Rangers faced Barau FC. Post-match reviews highlighted multiple violations, prompting the league to take firm action.
At the centre of the punishment is a ₦4 million fine, broken down across several offences. The club was penalized for inadequate security arrangements, pitch invasion by supporters, misconduct involving officials, and the harassment of match officials by fans.
Beyond the financial sanctions, Rangers have also been ordered to play their final two home matches of the season behind closed doors. This means supporters will be barred from attending those fixtures, an additional blow for the Enugu-based side as they approach the closing phase of the campaign.

Reports indicate that the league found serious lapses in matchday organization, particularly the failure to restrict unauthorized individuals from accessing sensitive areas around the pitch. The conduct of both supporters and club personnel was also cited as falling short of expected professional standards.
The NPFL’s decision reflects a broader push to enforce discipline and improve matchday safety across the league, with similar actions recently taken against other clubs, including Nasarawa United.
Rangers, however, still have an opportunity to respond. The club has been given a 48-hour window to lodge an appeal against the ruling if they believe the sanctions should be reviewed.
With the season nearing its conclusion, the timing of the punishment could have significant implications, not just financially, but also in terms of team morale and home advantage.
