Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions Remo Stars returned to winning ways on Wednesday after securing a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Kano Pillars at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta, Bold Sports reports.
Coming off a disappointing home defeat to Enugu Rangers, the Sky Blue Stars were under pressure to respond, and they did just enough. Victor Mbaoma provided the breakthrough in the 34th minute, heading home to hand the hosts a crucial lead going into the break.
Remo Stars pushed for a second after halftime and created a string of promising chances, but were unable to find the back of the net. Their inability to double their lead almost proved costly when veteran midfielder Rabiu Ali came close to levelling for Kano Pillars, his well-struck freekick tipped onto the crossbar by goalkeeper Emmanuel Olisa.

Substitute Samson Olasupo had opportunities to kill off the contest, but Pillars’ shot-stopper Okeke Abuchi produced some sharp saves to keep his side alive. Still, the visitors struggled to pose any consistent threat in attack and ultimately failed to find an equaliser, extending their miserable run on the road.
The defeat leaves Sai Masu Gida bottom of the NPFL standings with just six points from 13 matches. Their away woes continue too, having now lost all seven of their travels this season. However, their next fixture, a home tie against league leaders Ikorodu City, offers a chance at redemption.
For Remo Stars, the result brings much-needed relief. The champions climb out of the relegation zone into 15th place on 16 points after 12 matches and will look to build momentum when they welcome 17th-placed Barau FC on Sunday.
