Nigeria striker Taiwo Awoniyi has been left out of Nottingham Forest’s squad for the 2025/25 Europa League season, Bold Sports reports.
Awoniyi, who has been linked with a move away from the City Ground with the Saudi, Greek, and Turkish transfer windows still open, was not included in the 22-man squad for the Europa League released by the club.
Despite being a fan favorite and crucial to Forest’s Premier League survival, finds himself excluded from Europe’s stage just as Forest return to continental competition after 30 years.
The 28-year-old joined Forest in 2022 from Union Berlin for a then club-record £17.5m, has been one of the club’s most influential players in recent years, scoring 17 Premier League goals in 73 appearances. His most memorable moment came in May 2023 when his goal against Arsenal secured Forest’s Premier League survival.

The squad does include fellow Nigerian Ola Aina, bringing some comfort to Super Eagles supporters.
Record signing Omari Hutchinson, who joined from Ipswich Town for £37.5m, was also omitted, alongside Arsenal loanee Oleksandr Zinchenko.
UEFA rules require clubs to register four “club-trained” players in their 25-man List A squads. Forest only have one – Ryan Yates – which means they were restricted to registering just 22 players.
Other absentees include Jota Silva, goalkeeper Angus Gunn, Brazilian defender Cuiabano (who has since returned to Botafogo on loan), and Jair Cunha.
Forest, managed by Nuno Espírito Santo, will begin their Europa League campaign away to Spanish side Real Betis on Wednesday, September 24.
