Nottingham Forest are reportedly considering a move for in-form Brazilian striker Yuri Alberto from Corinthians, which could potentially impact the playing time of Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi, Bold Sports reports.
The Tricky Trees have enjoyed a strong start to the Premier League season, with Christian Wood leading the line impressively, netting eight goals in 11 matches. However, Awoniyi has yet to find the back of the net this campaign.
To bolster their attacking options, Forest are targeting Yuri Alberto, who has been in excellent form for Corinthians, scoring 10 goals and providing four assists in 25 league games this season. The 23-year-old’s overall tally for the season stands at 26 goals in 53 appearances across all competitions.
According to reports, Corinthians have placed a £25 million price tag on the striker, but Forest are reportedly willing to meet this valuation if the Brazilian club maintains their stance. Alberto’s impressive form has made him a sought-after target, and he is currently the joint-third top scorer in the Brazilian Serie A.
Forest view Alberto as a potential long-term replacement for Wood, as his playing style differs from both Wood and Awoniyi, offering a different dimension to the team’s attack.
Awoniyi has been a key player for Forest since his arrival in 2022, but injury issues and inconsistent form have hampered his progress. The club is now looking for a more reliable and consistent goal scorer to provide depth and competition for Wood.
While Forest are keen to secure Alberto’s services as early as January, Corinthians President Augusto Melo remains optimistic about retaining the striker for at least one more season.
“Yuri Alberto has already shown his worth, which is why we acquired his economic rights. I’m not worried. He’s a crucial player for Corinthians, and we definitely plan to count on him in 2025.”
Alberto is contracted to Corinthians until 2027.
