Nigerians shine in Florida: Tabugbo, Ogundiran claim wins as Caleb hits PBs

Nigerian athletes delivered an impressive set of performances across multiple meets in the United States, recording wins, personal bests, and record-breaking feats as the outdoor season gathers momentum.

At the UCF Black & Gold Challenge in Florida, Adaobi Tabugbo opened her season in style, claiming victory in the women’s 100m hurdles.

The Nigerian sprinter clocked a time of 13.07 seconds to finish ahead of American athletes Camden Bailey, who placed second in 13.10 seconds, and Antoinette Galloway, who came third in 13.21 seconds.

In the same meet, newly crowned NAIA 60m champion Blessing Ogundiran continued her fine form by dominating the women’s 100m event. She stormed to victory in 11.37 seconds despite a slight headwind (-0.5), setting a new Warner University school record in the process.

Her time eclipsed the previous record of 11.63 seconds held by Jahhi Clarke-Bromfield. Ogundiran’s performance left the rest of the field trailing, with Armanie Coleman finishing a distant second in 11.59 seconds from another section.

Meanwhile, at the USF Alumni Invitational, John Caleb delivered a standout performance by setting a new personal best of 10.18 seconds in the men’s 100m, finishing second overall.

He edged fellow Nigerian and Minnesota teammate Charles Godfred, who also recorded a personal best of 10.20 seconds.

Caleb went on to impress further in the 200m, clocking another personal best of 20.75 seconds. Godfred also had a remarkable outing, securing victory in the long jump with a leap of 7.80 metres.
