Nigerian sprint sensation Tobi Amusan made a strong start to her 2026 campaign, finishing second in the women’s 200m at the Velocity Fest in Jamaica.
Amusan, widely known for her exploits in the hurdles, showed her versatility on the track by clocking a season’s best time of 23.25 seconds. Her performance was enough to secure a second-place finish behind Jamaican sprint icon Elaine Thompson-Herah, who won the race in a time of 22.61 seconds.

Another Jamaican, Ackera Nugent, placed third with a time of 23.35 seconds in a competitive field.
The outing marks an encouraging start to the season for Amusan, who continues to build form ahead of major international competitions.
Known for her dominance in the 100m hurdles, the Nigerian star’s performance in the 200m highlights her growing range and speed endurance as she fine-tunes her preparations for the year ahead.
