Several Nigerian players featured prominently for their clubs across Europe over the weekend, delivering goals, assists and influential performances in league and cup competitions.
Players from the Nigeria national football team were involved in matches across England, Spain, Italy, Belgium and Turkey as the European season continued to gather momentum.
In La Liga, Super Eagles striker Akor Adams returned to the scoresheet as Sevilla FC played out a 1-1 draw with Rayo Vallecano.
Adams opened the scoring after Sevilla launched a swift counter-attack, finishing from close range after meeting a cross from former Chelsea FC defender César Azpilicueta.
The goal ended a five-match scoring drought and marked the striker’s seventh league goal of the season. Adams was substituted in the 67th minute after an energetic display that included four shots, while Chidera Ejuke appeared as a late substitute.

In Italy, Gift Orban played a decisive role as Hellas Verona FC secured a 2-1 victory over Bologna FC 1909.
The Nigerian forward provided the assist for Verona’s winning goal, delivering a low cross that Kieron Bowie converted to complete the comeback.
Returning from a three-match suspension, Orban produced an energetic attacking display that included five shots, two on target and three key passes.
Defensively, fellow Nigerian Daniel Oyegoke impressed in only his ninth league appearance since joining the club from Heart of Midlothian FC. The victory also ended Verona’s 12-match winless run.
In Belgium, Raphael Onyedika endured a difficult start for Club Brugge KV in their clash with RSC Anderlecht.

The midfielder lost possession early in the match, allowing Nathan De Cat to capitalise and give Anderlecht the lead.
However, Raphael Onyedika delivered a far more composed performance, helping to stabilise Club Brugge’s midfield while also producing a crucial defensive clearance that ensured the match finished 2–2.
In England, Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey and Samuel Chukwueze were part of the Fulham FC side that suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to Southampton FC in the Round of 16 of the FA Cup.
Fulham thought they had taken the lead when Rodrigo Muniz scored after an unusual sequence involving goalkeeper Daniel Peretz, but the goal was ruled out because referee Jarred Gillett had already blown his whistle for a moving ball during the goal kick.
Southampton eventually secured the win late in the match. Finn Azaz first struck the crossbar before winning a penalty following contact from Joachim Andersen.
Ross Stewart converted the spot-kick in stoppage time to send Southampton into the quarter-finals.

Fulham manager Marco Silva described the result as frustrating.
“Completely disappointing result and afternoon for us, for the football club and for the fans mainly.
[They] are going to be the ones that are going to suffer because the expectations, as always, were very high.
“Basically, a really, really bad day for us that has to make us look inside of ourselves and move on.”
Iwobi remains the only Nigerian among the trio to have previously won the FA Cup, lifting the trophy with Arsenal FC in 2017. Fulham now turn their attention back to the Premier League, where they sit 10th with nine matches remaining.
