…Ndidi plays down Osimhen’s outburst
Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi has said the team will not dwell on their emphatic 4–0 victory over Mozambique in the round of 16 at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, insisting that attention has already shifted to the quarter-final clash against either the Democratic Republic of Congo or Algeria.
Victor Osimhen netted a brace, while Ademola Lookman and Akor Adams were also on target as Nigeria cruised to a comfortable win over their southern African opponents at the Fez Stadium.
Speaking to reporters after the match, Ndidi admitted he was pleased with the result but stressed that there are key lessons to be learned ahead of the quarter-final, particularly in converting chances.
“We celebrate this, but we also focus on the things we should have done better because we had so many chances,” Ndidi told reporters, per Ademola Victor TV. “We should have converted more opportunities.”

“Now we have to go back, correct our mistakes and look forward to whoever comes next. The main focus is on us, not who we are playing. It’s about improving our game.”
The Leicester City midfielder praised the team’s overall display but reiterated that winning remains the priority.
“I was impressed with the performance. The most important thing is the win, and now our attention turns to the next one.”
Ndidi also addressed the on-field altercation between Osimhen and Lookman in the second half, describing it as a product of healthy competition within the squad.

“It’s a very competitive attitude, which I like, because we want more. We missed a lot of chances and sometimes frustration comes when you want more and it’s not coming. I’m very happy with the attitude because everyone wants more.”
The Super Eagles skipper further hailed the impact of striker Akor Adams, who scored his first AFCON goal in the victory, expressing confidence that the Sevilla forward has even more to offer.
“Akor has been amazing. He’s a cool guy and we’re looking forward to more from him in the future.”
