Sevilla forward Kelechi Iheanacho, Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, and Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye have joined the Super Eagles camp in Abidjan ahead of Thursday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Benin Republic.
The trio arrived Tuesday morning, increasing the number of players in camp to 13.
The players in camp are: goalkeeper Amas Obasogie, defenders Victor Collins, Bruno Onyemaechi and newly invited Gabriel Osho, midfielders Alhassan Yusuf, Raphael Onyedika, Frank Onyeka, and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, along with forwards Moses Simon and Samuel Chukwueze.
Iheanacho will be looking to regain the form that once endeared him to Nigerian fans. Since joining Sevilla in the summer, he has scored just twice—both goals coming in a Copa del Rey match against Las Rozas CF. The forward has struggled for game time, making only four starts and clocking 354 minutes in La Liga.
Ndidi, on the other hand, has been in stellar form for Leicester City this season. In 11 Premier League games, he has provided four assists—matching his career-best tally from the 2020–21 season, when he played 26 games. Recently, he reached a significant milestone by playing his 200th game for Leicester, becoming only the ninth Nigerian to hit that mark in England’s topflight.
Okoye has also been impressive, emerging as one of the standout goalkeepers in Serie A this season. He has made 37 saves, second only to Vanja Milinković-Savić of Torino. His 68.4% save ratio highlights his shot-stopping prowess, surpassing notable keepers like Mike Maignan of AC Milan (65.9%) and Yann Sommer of Inter Milan (67.4%).
More players are expected to join the camp later on Tuesday as the Super Eagles prepare to secure maximum points against Benin Republic before traveling to Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, to face Rwanda.
