Hosts Morocco will face Nigeria’s Super Falcons in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after edging Ghana 4–2 on penalties in a dramatic semi-final in Rabat on Tuesday night.
The tense encounter at Stade Moulay Abdellah ended 1–1 after extra time, but the Atlas Lionesses held their nerve in the shootout. Goalkeeper Khadija Er-Rmichi made a crucial save and Ghana missed two spot-kicks to hand Morocco a ticket to their second successive WAFCON final.
Stella Nyamekye had given Ghana the lead in the 26th minute, smashing home from a scramble in the box after a corner. It was a reward for a strong first-half performance from the Black Queens, who dominated the early exchanges and created chances through Doris Boaduwaa, Princess Marfo, and Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah.
But the home side came out stronger in the second half and found their equaliser in the 55th minute through Sakina Ouzraoui Diki, who pounced on a rebound after Ibtissam Jraïdi’s effort was deflected in the box.

Morocco dominated possession after the goal, but Ghana still posed a threat on the break, with Princella Adubea and Alice Kusi going close. Extra time produced more drama, including injuries and missed chances—most notably from Ghana’s Evelyn Badu, who headed wide from close range.
With neither side able to find a winner after 120 minutes, it came down to penalties. Morocco converted all four of their kicks through Hanane Aït El Haj, Jraïdi, Kenza Chapelle, and Anissa Lahmari, while Ghana’s Badu shot wide and Comfort Yeboah had her effort saved.
The result means Morocco will now face nine-time champions Nigeria in Saturday’s final, while Ghana will battle South Africa for third place on Friday.
The Super Falcons sealed their place in the WAFCON final with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over defending champions South Africa on Tuesday evening.
Michelle Alozie scored the winner late in injury time in the tense semifinal clash at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium to prevent the game going into extra time after Linda Mothlalo had scored from the spot to cancel out Captain Rasheedat Ajibade first half penalty.
The final will be a repeat of the semi-final of the 2022 WAFCON also in Morocco which the hosts won 5-4 on penalties after normal time and extra time ended 1-1 with Ifeoma Onumonu missing her spot kick.
