D’Tigers forward Chimezie Metu will not be joining Turkish basketball powerhouse Fenerbahçe Beko, as negotiations between both parties have officially broken down.
According to Italian basketball insider Andrea Calzoni, Metu successfully passed his medical tests with the Istanbul-based club. However, the deal collapsed due to a disagreement over contract terms, particularly the length of the deal and the inclusion of a renewal option.
“Chimezie Metu will NOT sign with Fenerbahçe Beko. Deal failed. Metu passed the medical tests, but he wanted a one-year contract. The two parties did not reach an agreement on the renewal option in the contract,” Calzoni posted on X.
The former Phoenix Suns player reportedly insisted on a one-year contract, while Fenerbahçe Beko was keen on inserting a renewal clause. After both sides failed to reach an agreement on the structure of the contract, the deal was called off.
The 28-year-old forward most recently played for FC Barcelona Bàsquet but had his ACB Liga and EuroLeague campaign cut short due to a ruptured Achilles tendon—a season-ending injury.

As a result of the injury, Metu was unable to secure a contract extension with Barcelona. While Spanish rivals Real Madrid were also reportedly interested in signing the Nigerian-American forward, his fitness concerns proved to be a major stumbling block in finalizing any deal.
With Metu now off the table, Fenerbahçe Beko will continue their search for frontcourt reinforcements ahead of the upcoming Turkish Basketball Super League and EuroLeague seasons.
