Premier League side Leeds United have completed the signing of highly-rated Nigerian defender Leonard Ngenge from Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions Remo Stars, the club officially confirmed on Tuesday.
The 18-year-old centre-back has signed a deal that will keep him at Elland Road until the end of the 2026-27 season and will initially link up with the club’s Academy setup.
“Leeds United are pleased to announce the signing of Leonard Ngenge, who joins the club’s Academy after penning a deal until the end of the 2026/27 season,” the club announced in a statement on their official website.
“The defender makes the move to West Yorkshire from his native Nigeria, having made seven appearances in all competitions this term for Remo Stars FC,” the statement continued.
“The centre-back has featured twice for his country at senior level, making his debut in a clash with Senegal last year before also facing Sudan. Everyone at Leeds United would like to welcome Leonard to the club, where he will link up with the Academy setup.”
Reacting to the move, Ngenge described the transfer as a major milestone in his young career: “I am excited,” the defender said. “It is a big step for me. It is the biggest step of my career right now and I hope to start perfectly.”
He added that he is determined to make the most of the opportunity and contribute positively to the club’s ambitions.
“It is a huge opportunity and hopefully I get to utilise my opportunity and do better for the club, represent the club and be part of the great things they set out to achieve.”
“Leeds is a great club. I know they have got like tons of history and I heard about some players like Tony Yeboah from Ghana who scored lots of goals, so I know they are a good club.”

Speaking on his playing style, the defender highlighted his strengths: “I am left-footed, I like to show my tackling abilities, getting the body in the way and doing everything to cover the goalkeeper.”
On the international stage, Ngenge represented Nigeria for the Super Eagles B side, featuring in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in August 2025. He admitted the experience played a key role in his development.
“It was also a great opportunity. I worked hard. The coaches pushed me back at home. It was a great part of that. I learned a lot down there.”
