Kiki Iriafen made history on Wednesday night, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Washington Mystics from falling 75-69 to the Phoenix Mercury Thursday night, Bold Sports reports.
The Nigerian-American forward delivered another dominant performance, posting 18 points and 13 rebounds to record her 16th double-double of the season.
With that, she set a new Mystics franchise record for most double-doubles in a single campaign, surpassing the previous mark of 15 double-double set by Crystal Langhorne in 2010.
She also became the first rookie in WNBA history to record 550+ points 350+ rebounds, and 50+ assists in a single season.
Shakira Austin provided strong support with 15 points, 10 rebounds, and two blocks, while rookie guard Sonia Citron chipped in seven points, four assists, and four rebounds. Alysha Clark added nine points, and Sug Sutton finished with 10 points and three assists.
Despite Iriafen’s milestone night, the Mystics could not contain Phoenix’s firepower. Kahleah Copper led the Mercury with a game-high 18 points, while Alyssa Thomas had a near triple-double performance of 12 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists. Satou Sabally contributed 10 points and six rebounds, with Natasha Mack adding eight points and eight rebounds.

The loss extended Washington’s struggles, but the 2025 rookie has established herself as one of the league’s most consistent performers, and her achievement cements her place in Mystics history. She is fourth in the WNBA in rebounds per game with 8.7.
