Kelvin Amayo of Rivers Hoopers has been named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the just-concluded National Premier Basketball League Final 8 playoffs, following an outstanding individual performance that propelled his team to their second consecutive league title.
Rivers Hoopers secured the championship in style, defeating Hoops and Read 71-54 in the final. Amayo was instrumental throughout the tournament, leading his team with an average of 24.2 points per game — the highest in the competition. He also contributed 1.8 assists and 1.4 rebounds per game, while sinking 49 field goals and 16 three-pointers across five games.
His exceptional display underscores his importance to Rivers Hoopers as they prepare for the Basketball Africa League (BAL), where Amayo is expected to shine again after earning All-BAL Second Team and BAL All-Defensive Second Team honors in the previous edition.
Other standout performers at the Final 8 include Michael Okiki (Rivers Hoopers), Clinton Osabuchi (Hoops and Read), Chingka Garba (Gboko City Chiefs), and Vincent Cyprian (Rivers Hoopers), who were all named among the top five players of the tournament.
With the domestic season now wrapped up, Rivers Hoopers will turn their attention to the BAL, where they hope to represent Nigeria with pride and aim for continental glory.
