The Algerian Football Federation has identified Jose Peseiro, the out-of-contract coach of the Super Eagles, as a potential replacement for Djamel Belmadi, who resigned following Algeria’s disappointing performance at the recent Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.
Algeria’s elimination from a group comprising Angola, Burkina Faso, and Mauritania marks the second consecutive tournament in which the North African team has exited at the group stage, following their championship win in 2019.

Peseiro, the Portuguese coach who guided Nigeria to the AFCON final in his debut campaign, is reportedly the frontrunner for the Algerian coaching position, ahead of fellow Portuguese Carlos Queiroz and former Bordeaux and Switzerland manager Vladimir Petković, as reported by DZfoot.
Walid Sadi, President of the Algerian Football Federation, has initiated discussions with Peseiro, whose contract with the Nigerian national team ended after the AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire. Notably, Peseiro is currently awaiting payment from the Nigeria Football Federation.

At 63 years old, Peseiro stands out as a younger option compared to Queiroz (70), and his extensive experience in African football sets him apart from Petković (60). However, recent reports suggest that Queiroz has withdrawn from consideration for the Algerian position.
If negotiations with Peseiro fall through, Petković remains a viable alternative for the Algerian Football Federation.
