Jami Schlueter delivered another historic performance, breaking the Nigerian national record in the men’s heptathlon with a massive personal best of 5,871 points at the US Combined Events Championships in Indianapolis, Bold Sports reports.
The remarkable tally not only resets the national benchmark he established just two weeks ago in Texas, but also elevates him to No. 2 on the all-time African list – behind only Algerian great Larbi Bourrada.
It is another significant milestone in what is quickly becoming a breakthrough season for the Nigerian athlete.

Competing against a strong field, Schlueter finished fifth overall, showcasing consistency and improvement across multiple disciplines. His scorecard reflected a series of standout efforts, including several personal and season’s bests.
He opened strongly with a season’s best of 6.98 seconds in the 60m before soaring to a personal best of 7.39m in the long jump. He followed that with a solid 14.40m in the shot put and cleared 1.91m in the high jump to remain firmly in contention.
On the second day, Schlueter produced a personal best of 7.97 seconds in the 60m hurdles, added a season’s best clearance of 4.55m in the pole vault, and closed out the competition with a personal best of 2:43.59 in the 1000m to seal the record-breaking total.
