Super Eagles and Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi also known as “17,” has stepped into a new creative lane with the release of his debut EP More to Life on Thursday.

The nine-track project sees Iwobi blend football stardom with music, collaborating with rising and familiar names including Fido whose hit ‘Joy is Coming’ dominated 2025, as well as Aston Villa midfielder Amadou Onana, who records under the alias 24AM, alongside Giddi and SPKS.

The opening track, ‘Track 0’, sets the tone for the project, with Iwobi reflecting on his lifestyle, ambition, and blessings. He closes the track with a bold statement of intent: “It’s not just football on TV, there’s a whole new person just unleashed.”

Themes of love take center stage across tracks two, three and four: ‘Mine’, ‘Bussdown’, and ‘Joana’, where the midfielder explores softer, more personal narratives. However, the project quickly pivots back to familiar territory on tracks five and six: ‘Proper’ and ‘Double Double’, where he delves into wealth, success, and ambition.

On track seven ‘By My Side’, Iwobi offers a glimpse into his spiritual side, sampling a well-known Nigerian Christian chorus at both the intro and outro: “I have a very big God, he’s always by my side, a very big God, by my side, by my side.”

The eighth track, ‘Joga Bonito’, draws inspiration from the Brazilian football philosophy that celebrates joy, flair, and creativity, qualities that have also defined Iwobi’s playing style on the pitch.

The project closes with a deeply reflective outro, where Iwobi opens up about personal struggles, friendships, and his motivation for making music. “Gotta tell stories, not just seeing me on TV,” he explains in track nine titled ‘Letter’, underlining his desire to be understood beyond football.

He also addresses criticism and public scrutiny, revealing how he stays grounded: “stay focused and stick to the ball.”

In one of the most candid moments on the EP, Iwobi reflects on the backlash following Nigeria’s defeat in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Final against Ivory Coast, which led him to temporarily archive all posts on his Instagram account.

“AFCON they all tried to hate man, came off the socials cause they trying to break man, slate man, no I can’t rate that,” he says on the outro.

With ‘More to Life’, Iwobi presents a multidimensional identity: footballer, storyteller, and artist, offering fans a deeper look into the man behind the jersey.
