Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has returned to training for German Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen ahead of his return to action from injury.
Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso revealed this in the team’s pre-match press conference ahead of their Europa League round of 16 first leg tie against Qarabag on Thursday.
Alonso also said the Nigerian striker will hopefully return to action at the end of the month, with the team’s league game against Hoffenheim on March 30 a possibility.
Boniface was out injured after suffering a muscle-tendon injury in the right adductor area during the Nigerian training camp in Dubai ahead of the 2023 African Cup of Nations.
The injury saw him miss the AFCON where the Super Eagles won a silver medal after losing in the final to host nation Ivory Coast.
Before being injured, the striker who joined from Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise in the summer, had scored 10 goals and seven assists in just 16 Bundesliga appearances for the high-flying Werkself outfit. He also added four goals in the UEFA Europa League and another two in the DFB Cup.
Leverkusen have actually been marching on since his injury and top the Bundesliga, 10 points ahead of second-placed Bayern Munich. They have also broken the German record, unbeaten in 34 league games.
