Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has declared that his market value exceeds €100m, despite a chaotic summer transfer window that saw him miss out on a permanent move.
Osimhen, who is currently on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli, failed to secure a permanent transfer after no club met his €130 million valuation. Speaking in an interview with TuttoMercatoWeb (TMW), Osimhen explained that his career success justifies his high price tag.
“I am worth more than €100m,” Osimhen said. “There are few players like me in the world who have achieved this style and this success. Everything is linked to my characteristics, to the things I do, to my quality.”
Since joining Galatasaray, Osimhen has made an immediate impact, scoring two goal and providing three assists in four games. He expressed his admiration for his new surroundings.
He said, “Istanbul is incredible. It’s a very big city, and I didn’t know that. This team is the most important thing. The fans make it great, which is fantastic for me, my family, and my friends. It’s one of the best towns in the world.”
Frozen out of Antonio Conte’s squad at Napoli amid transfer links to Chelsea and Al-Ahli, Osimhen eventually joined the Turkish side after a permanent deal could not be arranged before the window closed. The loan deal will keep the Nigerian international at Galatasaray until the end of the 2024/25 season, without a buy option. However, his release clause has been reduced to €75m, making a potential January move possible if triggered by an interested club.
Reflecting on the varying opinions regarding his worth, Osimhen added, “I’m aware of the contribution I make and what I can do, even in my private life. Do people think differently? Some say 15m, others say 100-120-150. Everyone has different opinions.”
He also shared his appreciation for the rich footballing culture in Turkey. “I watched many players while growing up, and Didier Drogba was one of them. That goes also for Henry Onyekuru and Oghnekaro Etebo, who played here too. I knew that the atmosphere was beautiful beforehand, but it’s even more magnificent from up close. I’m speaking objectively and not just because I’m here.”
