Nigeria’s Flamingos produced a dominant performance on Saturday after thrashing Guinea 5-0 in the first leg of their 2026 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifying fixture at the Stade Champroux in Abidjan.

‎The Nigerian side took control early and never eased off. Captain Harmony Chidi opened the scoring inside the first minute before adding two more goals in a devastating first-half display from coach Akeem Busari’s team.

‎Chidi arrived in the tie with strong momentum and again showed her importance for the Flamingos. The forward delivered a clinical hat-trick and constantly troubled Guinea’s defence with her movement and finishing.

‎Nigeria pressed aggressively from kickoff. Their intensity forced mistakes across the pitch. Chidi punished Guinea almost immediately with a calm finish after 60 seconds.

‎The Flamingos continued to dominate possession and attack with speed. Chidi struck again in the 12th minute after another flowing move split open the Guinean backline.

Guinea struggled to cope with Nigeria’s pace on the wings and quick passing through midfield. The pressure eventually produced a third goal in the 37th minute when Kemi Adegbuyi finished neatly inside the box.

‎Two minutes later, Chidi completed her hat-trick. The captain capitalised on another defensive error to send Nigeria into halftime with a commanding 4-0 advantage.

‎Nigeria maintained the same tempo after the break. The Flamingos controlled the game comfortably and protected their clean sheet with disciplined defending.

‎Guinea failed to create meaningful chances as Busari’s side continued to dictate play in all areas. Nigeria later added a fifth goal to seal one of the biggest victories of the qualifying series so far.

‎The result leaves the Flamingos firmly in control ahead of the return leg against Guinea at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne on Sunday, May 31, 2026.

‎If the Flamingos finish the job at home, they will advance to the final qualifying round for the 2026 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.
