‎Nigeria’s Super Falcons will go into the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) as the highest-ranked team in Africa after the release of the final FIFA Women’s World Ranking before the tournament. The update confirms Nigeria’s dominance on the continent as they remain 36th in the world standings.

‎Nigeria recently impressed in international friendlies against Senegal. They secured a 2-1 win on June 5 before delivering a stronger 3-0 victory in the return fixture just days later. Those results showed attacking strength and defensive control, but they were still not enough to push Nigeria above Serbia, Ukraine, and the Czech Republic in the global table. The Super Falcons also continue to sit ahead of nations like Vietnam, Slovenia, Philippines, Chinese Taipei, and Jamaica in the rankings.

‎The Super Falcons continue to set the pace in African women’s football. ‎Nigeria’s consistency in recent matches has reinforced their top position. Their back-to-back wins over Senegal highlighted sharp finishing and improved game management, even though their world ranking remained unchanged at 36th.

‎South Africa remain Nigeria’s closest challengers on the continent. Banyana Banyana climbed to 57th after a mixed window that included a 5-0 defeat to Japan and a 1-0 victory in the return match. Ghana dropped slightly to 60th but still rank among Africa’s strongest sides.

‎Morocco, runners-up in the previous edition and hosts of the upcoming WAFCON, slipped to 64th. Zambia also fell to 65th despite a 3-0 win over Zimbabwe. Zambia will face Nigeria in the group stage, alongside Egypt and Malawi, who sit 99th and 158th respectively.

‎Spain remain number one in the world. The United States follow closely in second. Germany, England, and Japan complete the top five. France moved into sixth ahead of Brazil, while Sweden, Canada, and the Netherlands round out the top ten.
