Nigerian striker Gift Orban was sent off in the 11th minute of Hellas Verona’s 2-1 defeat to Parma in their Serie A clash on Sunday.
Verona, who were seeking a crucial win to boost their fight against relegation, fell behind early after midfielder Adrian Bernabé opened the scoring in the fourth minute of the game.
Matters worsened for the visitors shortly after as Orban was shown a straight red card for elbowing Parma’s Lautaro Valenti. The decision sparked heavy protests from the Verona players, but it was upheld following a VAR review.

Despite being reduced to ten men, Verona fought back and equalised in the 43rd minute when Abdou Harroui converted from the penalty spot to make it 1-1 heading into the halftime break.
The visitors looked set to hold on for a point, but their resistance was broken deep into stoppage time as Mateo Pellegrino struck in the 93rd minute to hand Parma all three points.
The red card could see Orban face a suspension of up to three matches or more for violent conduct.
