Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka is set to work with Premier League legend Frank Lampard after Coventry City agreed a deal to sign the Nigerian International from Brentford, Bold Sports reports.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the move with his trademark “here we go”, revealing that an agreement has been reached between all parties for Onyeka to join Coventry on loan, with a view to making the switch permanent in the summer.
The 28-year-old has struggled for consistent minutes at Brentford this season, featuring in just nine matches across all competitions and yet to make a Premier League start. Onyeka is understood to have been seeking a more prominent role, something that has not materialised at the Gtech Community Stadium in the current campaign.
Brentford, for their part, have been reported to be open to either selling or loaning out the Nigerian international due to uncertainty over his long-term role at the club. Head coach Keith Andrews also admitted he understands Onyeka’s desire for regular playing time, with the midfielder now set to get the opportunity he has been craving in the Championship promotion race.
Coventry, coached by former England and Chelsea midfielder Lampard, had been leading the race for Onyeka, despite interest from Sheffield United. The Sky Blues have now won the battle, strengthening their squad at a crucial stage of the season as they chase a return to the Premier League.

The move comes at a timely moment for Coventry, who suffered a 2-1 defeat to QPR on Saturday, allowing their lead at the top of the Championship to be cut down to goal difference. Coventry are now level on 58 points with second-placed Middlesbrough, and Onyeka’s arrival could provide the lift Lampard’s side need to regain momentum and maintain their promotion push.
