Former Super Eagles manager, Jose Peseiro, has earned a prestigious nomination from the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS). He’s been shortlisted for the Men’s World Best National Coach Award 2024.
Peseiro’s impressive performance, leading Nigeria to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final in Côte d’Ivoire earlier in the year, has secured his place among the top 20 national team coaches worldwide.

The star-studded list of nominees includes renowned managers like Luis de la Fuente (Spain), Gareth Southgate (England), Didier Deschamps (France), Ronald Koeman (Netherlands), Julian Nagelsmann (Germany), Vincenzo Montella (Italy – Team Turkey), Murat Yakin (Switzerland), Willy Sagnol (France – Team Georgia), Lionel Scaloni (Argentina), Néstor Lorenzo (Argentina – Team Colombia).
Others are; Marcelo Bielsa (Argentina – Team Uruguay), Fernando Batista (Argentina – Team Venezuela), Jesse Marsch (United States – Team Canada), Thomas Christiansen (Spain – Team Panama), Emerse Faé (Ivory Coast), Hugo Broos (Belgium – Team South Africa), Bartolomé “Tintín” Márquez (Spain – Team Qatar), Hussein Ammouta (Morocco – Team Jordan) and Darren Bazeley (England – Team New Zealand).
Expressing his delight, Peseiro credited his coaching staff and players for their dedication and hard work. He highlighted their historic AFCON run and thanked the Nigeria Football Federation and fans for their support.
“Very proud and satisfied to receive this nomination from IFFHS, a recognition that reflects the hard work and dedication that my coaching staff and I have invested over the years in service to the Nigerian national team.
“The records we have broken will go down in history, as well as the unforgettable journey to the AFCON final.
“I thank the Nigeria Football Federation, the players for the dedication they showed in every training session and competition, as well as all the staff and fans who supported us and believed in our work.”
Spain’s Luis de la Fuente is a strong contender for the award, having led La Roja to the 2024 Euros title.
