Edo Queens FC coach, Moses Aduku, is eager to lead his team into battle against FC Masar in a crucial Group B clash of the CAF Women’s Champions League. The match is set to kick off at 6 PM Nigerian time at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca, Morocco.
Both teams enter the match with identical records, having secured victories in their opening group-stage games. Edo Queens comfortably defeated CBE FC 3-0, while Masar pulled off a stunning upset against defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns. Queens currently lead the group and could widen their lead with another win.
Speaking ahead of the game, Moses Aduku admits it was a great result for the Egyptian debutants to defeat the defending champions. However, he warns that the game on Wednesday will be a different ballgame.
“I know they are going to be very determined because they got it against the South Africans, but it’s a different ballgame. The game against South Africa is gone, our game against the Ethiopian team is gone, this is a fresh game, with fresh ideas, and fresh techniques,” he said.
“They watched us, we also watched them, so 90 minutes will decide” he confidently declared.
When questioned on the excitement among the team and the atmosphere in the training ground, Aduku said “That is our behavior, that is our culture, we are happy to play football, the girls are all happy to play football, so we go in and do our thing.”
Although new to the competition, FC Marsar has proven formidable, rising quickly in Egyptian women’s football. After joining the Egyptian topflight league in the 2022/23 season, they won the Egypt Women’s Cup and, a season later, claimed both league and cup titles.
Meanwhile, in the other Group B match, Sundowns will look for a decisive win over CBE to stay in contention for a semifinal spot and retain their title. Sundowns have won both previous editions of the tournament.
