Former international striker, Brown Ideye, has blamed the current Super Eagles squad for failing to translate their pre-match talks on the pitch in the wake of their 2-1 loss to Benin Republic in a matchday four encounter at the Stade Félix Houphouet-Boigny stadium in Abidjan, Ivory Coast on Monday.
The Eagles led by their captain, Wilfred Ndidi, Paul Onuachu amongst others talked tough prior to the game.
Raphael Onyedika opened scoring for the Super Eagles in the 27th minute to crown a bright start for the Eagles.
But Benin drew level in the 36th minute, after Calvin Bassey failed to clear a long ball and Jodel Dossou sprinted clear to slot past Stanley Nwabali in the Nigeria goal.
The Cheetahs then went in front in stoppage time through skipper Steve Mounie, who put away a flick off a corner from inside the six-yard box.
Reacting to the defeat to Benin Republic, Ideye who was instrumental to the Eagles triumph at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa said football is all about hardwork on the pitch.
“Football not all about talks! If you don’t show working inside pitch, no results period.” Ideye wrote after the game.
The defeat means the Eagles are without a win after four games and remain fifth in Group C with three points.
