‎Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has acknowledged the weight of expectation on his shoulders as Nigeria prepares for its AFCON 2025 Round of 16 encounter against Mozambique in Morocco.

‎Addressing the media ahead of Monday’s fixture in Fes, the former Mali tactician made it clear that the competition has entered a decisive phase for his team. “This is the end of the group stage,” Chelle stated.

‎“Another tournament starts, and we play against Mozambique. The state of the mind of the group is good. This evening we will have the final training session to prepare for the game tomorrow.”

‎With the Nigeria Football Federation targeting at least a place in the final, Chelle did not shy away from admitting the pressure that comes with the role.

“Since I took this job, I have been under pressure. Game after game, we want to become ambitious, but we want to think about the next game.

“If God gives us the chance to go to the quarterfinal, we will think about it. But now we will think about the game against Mozambique, and for sure we want to win this game.”

‎He also reacted to observations about Nigeria’s fast starts, saying, “Before you talk, I did not see that… This is a good statistic.”
