The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed Ghanaian referee Daniel Laryea to officiate the highly anticipated AFCON 2025 semi-final between hosts Morocco and Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

The blockbuster encounter will take place on Wednesday at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

Laryea will be assisted by Zakhele Siwela (South Africa) and Souru Phatsoane (Lesotho), while Rwanda’s Samuel Uwikunda has been named as the fourth official for the Morocco vs Nigeria clash.

In the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) room, South Africa’s Abongile Tom will lead operations, with support from Haythem Guirat of Tunisia and Stephen Onyango Yiembe of Kenya. Ethiopia’s Lidya Tafesse will serve as the referee assessor.

The Guinean official has already officiated at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, having taken charge of the group-stage match between Algeria and Burkina Faso, which ended in a 1–0 victory for Algeria.

Hosts Morocco will be aiming to reach their third AFCON final. The Atlas Lions previously lifted the trophy in 1976 after defeating Guinea 2–0, and finished runners-up in 2004 following a 2–1 defeat to Tunisia.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Super Eagles remain one of the most successful teams in AFCON history. A win over Morocco would see Nigeria reach a record ninth AFCON final and secure consecutive final appearances for the first time since 1988 and 1990.

The Super Eagles head into the semi-final as the most in-form side at AFCON 2025, having scored 14 goals so far, their highest-ever goal tally at a single AFCON tournament.
