Wolverhampton Wanderers, home to Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare, have announced the appointment of Rob Edwards as their new head coach as they look to turn around a disastrous start to the 2025-26 Premier League season.

Edwards replaces Vitor Pereira, who was sacked after collecting just two points from 11 league games, a run that left Wolves bottom of the table. The appointment was confirmed on Wednesday, with the club revealing that Edwards has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal to begin what will be his fourth spell at Molineux.

“Rob Edwards is the new Wolves head coach, having signed a three-and-a-half-year deal to begin his fourth spell at the club,” the club statement read.

A former Wolves defender, Edwards enjoyed a four-year playing spell with the Old Gold between 2004 and 2008, making 111 appearances under Mick McCarthy. Since retiring, he has built a strong coaching reputation, guiding Forest Green Rovers and Luton Town to promotion, the latter to the Premier League, and recently leading Middlesbrough to second place in the Championship before his return.

Speaking on the appointment, Wolves chairman Jeff Shi expressed confidence in the new manager’s ability to rejuvenate the club: “He’s a very good person, he knows the club very well, he knows the city, the fans and he is very talented. We need to refresh the whole club with a new coach’s philosophy, bringing his own identity and ideas,” Shi said.

Edwards’ coaching journey has been closely tied to Wolves. He began his post-playing career with the club’s under-18s in 2014, later serving as first-team coach and under-23 manager, leading the youth side to promotion to the top level of academy football.

His managerial success continued with spells at AFC Telford United, Forest Green, Watford, and Luton Town, where he earned plaudits for his tactical intelligence and leadership.

Wolves’ Director of player recruitment and development Matt Jackson highlighted the impact of Edwards’ return on team culture and confidence: “Rob and his staff have demonstrated previously that they can be really good in shifting the culture, getting confidence quickly into players and building foundations for a really positive future,” Jackson said.

Tolu Arokodare, who has scored twice in the Carabao Cup this season, will be eager to impress under the new boss as he searches for his first Premier League goal and aims to help lift Wolves away from the relegation zone.
