Music took centre stage at the opening ceremony of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 on Sunday as Angélique Kidjo, Jaylann and L’Artiste performed the tournament’s official song.
The anthem was unveiled ahead of the opening match which saw hosts Morocco defeat Comoros 2-0, marking the formal start of the 35th edition of Africa’s flagship football competition.
The official AFCON 2025 song brings together three distinct musical influences, blending Moroccan pop, global urban sounds and traditional African rhythms to reflect the diversity and cultural reach of the tournament.
Five-time Grammy Award winner Angélique Kidjo adds global stature to the project. The Beninese singer, songwriter and activist is one of Africa’s most influential musical figures, known for blending traditional African sounds with funk, jazz, R&B and Latin influences across a career spanning more than three decades.
Kidjo is also a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, using her platform to advocate for education, women’s rights and cultural preservation. Her involvement underscores AFCON’s status as a continental event with worldwide appeal.
French-Moroccan artist L’Artiste, born Youssef Akdim, brings a contemporary urban edge to the anthem. He rose to prominence with the 2016 hit Maestro and has since delivered several international successes, including Chocolat, Clandestino and Ciao Amigo. His 2019 album Quartier Latin, featuring the global hit Peligrosa with Karol G, helped cement his crossover appeal.
Representing the host nation, Jaylann provides a fresh and youthful voice. The Moroccan singer has emerged rapidly within the country’s urban and pop music scene, building a strong digital following and gaining recognition among younger audiences.
Performing the official AFCON 2025 song on home soil places Jaylann at the centre of a moment that blends national pride, music and continental football celebration as Morocco hosts the tournament.
