The Super Eagles have been drawn with Madagascar, co-hosts Tanzania and Guinea Bissau in Group L of the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The highly-anticipated ceremony was held at the headquarters of the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) in Cairo on Tuesday.
It confirmed that Nigeria will face Madagascar who are looking to reach the AFCON finals for the second time, and Tanzania who Eric Chelle’s side defeated 2-1 in their AFCON 2025 opener.
The Super Eagles will also go against Guinea Bissau who secured a famous 1-0 victory in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers in Abuja. Nigeria won 1-0 in the second leg, and also won by the same scoreline when both sides faced again in the tournament finals.

Former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong was one of four African football greats that conducted the draw. He was joined by Max-Alain Gradel (Cote d’Ivoire), Essam El Hadary (Egypt) and Trésor Mputu (DR Congo).
The draw divided 48 teams into 12 groups of four. While the top two from each group will advance, co-hosts Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania have automatically claimed three qualification places.
AFCON 2027 marks the long-awaited return of the continental showpiece to East Africa for the first time in 51 years. It will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania from June 19 to July 17, 2027.
