Nigerian heavyweight boxer, Efe Ajagba, will face unbeaten Kazakhstan boxing sensation and knockout specialist, Zhan Kossobutskiy, on August 26 in a 10-round contest at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The fight which will be aired on ESPN will serve as the co-headliner along with the highly anticipated fight between Jared Anderson and Ukraine’s Andrii Rudenko on the same night.
Ajagba who had bounced back from his first career loss to Frank Sanchez in October 2021 with wins over Jozsef Darmos and Stephan Shaw will be facing his toughest fight since losing to the Cuban.
Kossobutskiy who currently holds WBC International heavyweight title has recorded wins in all his 19 career fights while 18 of them have come by way of knockout. Ajagba’s record is also not shabby having claimed 17 wins in 18 fights with 13 of his victories coming by way of knockout.
Kossobutskiy’s visa issue has since been resolved and while he awaits his chance to fight Anderson, he has been pitted against the American’s teammate in Ajagba who is also looking to move up in the next world rankings.
The fight is one that has split the bookmakers as both fighters have the power and ability to end the bout before the 10th round but Ajagba will be tipped as favourite to win having faced more competitively ranked fighters compared to the 34-year-old Kazak pugilist.
