Tobi Amusan clocked a season’s best of 12.82s to advance to the final of the women’s 100m hurdles at the African Athletics Championships in Accra.
The world record holder finished well ahead of the pack, showing her dominance to win her semifinal heat and qualify as the fastest overall in the two heats.
Adaobi Tabugbo who was in the race, finished third and advanced to the final based on time.
Reacting to her win, Tobi Amusan said: “I’m just excited to be out here injury free. It’s my fourth African Championships, so I’m looking forward to defend my title tomorrow.”

Meanwhile, Janet Sunday made her women’s 100m hurdles debut for Nigeria in the first semifinal heat, finishing second behind Ghanaian Evonne Britton.
In other events, Nigeria clinched two medals in the women’s Discus. Divine Oladipo won the Silver medal while Obiageri Amaechi won bronze.
Rosemary Chukwuma and Miracle Ezechukwu won their heats to book their spot in the semifinal of the women’s 100m. Tejiri Ugoh finished third in her heat.
Chidera Ezeakor clocked 10.38s to win his men’s 100m heat while Esther Okon finished second in her women’s 400m heat, also sealing her spot in the next round.
Samson Nathaniel won a tightly-contested race in his men’s 400m heat, while Sikiru Adeyemi finished third in his heat for the same event, moving through to the next round.

Favour Ashe was initially dramatically disqualified in the men’s 100m heats. However, after a protest, the sprinter was allowed to run a solo race. He then clocked a time of 10.55s, which was enough to see him qualify for the men’s 100m semifinals on Wednesday.
