Super Eagles Group C opponents, the Cranes of Uganda, will intensify their preparations for the forthcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with a friendly match against Gabon on Wednesday.

The Cranes played out a 2-2 draw against CAF Champions League side AS FAR on Saturday at the Maamora Stadium in Rabat as they continue to gear up for the AFCON, which is scheduled to kick off on December 21.

Denis Omedi and Ivan Ahimbisibwe were on target for Uganda, while teenage forward James Bogere, one of the standout performers at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar, also impressed. Bogere linked up well with Travis Mutyaba and Bobosi Byaruhanga and came close to scoring on two occasions.

Uganda will open their AFCON campaign against Tunisia on December 23 at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium before facing Tanzania at the Al Medina Stadium in Rabat, and then rounding off their group fixtures against the Super Eagles in Fez.

The friendly against Gabon will provide head coach Paul Put with further insight into his squad as he fine-tunes tactics and assesses his team’s readiness for the varying challenges of the tournament.
