Angola and Zimbabwe played out a 1-1 draw in their second group match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) at the Stade de Marrakech on Friday, a result that leaves both sides with work to do in their final group fixtures, Bold Sports reports.
Both teams went into the encounter desperate for their first points of the tournament, having suffered narrow 2-1 defeats in their opening games, Angola against South Africa and Zimbabwe against Egypt. That urgency was evident from the opening exchanges, with Angola asserting early control of the game.
Patrice Beaumelle’s side were rewarded for their dominance in the 24th minute when To Carneiro picked out Gelson Dala inside the penalty area. The winger reacted swiftly, firing a first-time volley into goalkeeper Washington Arubi’s near post to give Angola a deserved lead.

Zimbabwe, however, responded just before the interval. On the brink of half-time, the Warriors struck on the counter-attack, with experienced forward Knowledge Musona keeping his composure to clinically finish and restore parity at 1-1 heading into the break.
Angola continued to dictate possession in the second half, but it was Zimbabwe who fashioned the clearer opportunities as the match wore on. Despite their intent, both sides struggled with their final ball and finishing, failing to find a decisive breakthrough.
In the end, the points were shared, leaving Angola and Zimbabwe on one point apiece after two matches. Angola will now turn their attention to a crucial final group clash against Egypt, while Zimbabwe face South Africa, with both teams needing positive results to keep their AFCON qualification hopes alive.
