Ademola Lookman missed out on scoring a hat-trick after being subbed off in the 56th minute of Atalanta’s commanding 6-1 victory over Hellas Verona on Saturday, despite his remarkable performance.
The Nigerian international delivered a stunning display, notching up two goals and two assists within just 34 minutes. Lookman set up Marten De Roon for the opening goal in the 6th minute and then assisted Mateo Retegui, who made it 2-0 in the 9th. Just five minutes later, he provided an assist for Charles De Ketelaere’s goal, bringing the score to 3-0, before putting his own name on the scoresheet.

Lookman netted his first goal in the 29th minute, then followed up with another just five minutes later, giving Atalanta a 5-0 lead. Hellas Verona’s Amin Sarr scored in the 42nd minute, pulling one back, but Retegui sealed the game for Atalanta with their sixth goal in the 58th minute, putting the match well beyond reach for Verona.
Despite his early substitution, Lookman’s impact on the game was undeniable, with his swift attacking moves and precise assists setting the tone for Atalanta’s dominant performance.
Lookman returned to the goals scorers column after failing to find the back of the net in his last three league games for the club including the UEFA Champions League.
Lookman in the game scored two goals, two assists, three shots on target, and 36 total passes while 31 of those passes were successful. He’s had eight goal contributions (four goals, four assists) in six league games this campaign.
