Kun Khalifat avoided what would have been a second consecutive league defeat after Ebuka Okoro struck in the 92nd minute to earn them a dramatic 1-1 draw against visiting Kano Pillars at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri.
The hosts were looking to bounce back from their 1-0 defeat to Enyimba the previous weekend, while Kano Pillars aimed to build on their recent impressive form, having gone unbeaten in their previous three matches.
The first half was a cagey affair, with both sides struggling to create clear-cut scoring opportunities. However, the encounter came to life after the break as both teams stepped up their attacking efforts.
The game shifted into another gear when Sukiru Alimi broke the deadlock with a stunning solo effort that could well be a contender for Goal of the Week.
Refusing to settle for another home defeat, Kun Khalifat threw everything forward in search of an equaliser and were eventually rewarded when Okoro found the back of the net in the 92nd minute to rescue a valuable point for the hosts.
The result extends Kano Pillars’ unbeaten run to four matches, home and away, while Kun Khalifat will be relieved to have salvaged a point after coming agonisingly close to suffering another defeat on home soil.
