Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi has urged Hull City to maintain their positive start to the 2026/27 Premier League season as they prepare to face Fulham, Bold Sports reports.

The Nigerian centre-back has helped the newly promoted Tigers establish themselves in the top flight. Hull sit eighth with nine points after six matches, following Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Everton at the MKM Stadium.

Ajayi has started all six league matches this season. He also scored in Hull’s memorable 2-0 victory over Manchester United on the opening weekend. The defender’s early contribution has strengthened Hull’s return to the Premier League.

Ajayi insists Hull City must keep improving

Despite their encouraging results, Ajayi believes Hull must remain focused on the challenges ahead. He stressed that the team cannot afford to become complacent after just six matches.

“It’s been a good start. We’re happy with the work we’ve done so far,” Ajayi told Footy-Africa.

“We know we haven’t done anything yet. There’s still a long way to go in the season, but we put ourselves in a really good position to have a positive season, so we’re really happy.”

Hull have collected points against established Premier League opposition. They drew 2-2 away to Chelsea before recording the same score against Everton.

However, a 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United showed the difficulties they face in maintaining consistency. Ajayi and his teammates must now build on their early progress.

Manchester United goal remains a special moment

Ajayi also reflected on scoring against Manchester United in Hull’s first league match of the campaign.

The 32-year-old opened the scoring in the 17th minute. Nobel Mendy later added a second goal to secure a historic 2-0 victory for the Tigers.

“It was a blessing to score the first goal back in the Premier League, also against a massive team like Manchester United—something I don’t take lightly,” Ajayi said.

“It was more important for me really that we got the three points and the win, which we did. So yeah, I was pleased.”

The goal marked a memorable return to England’s top division for the Nigerian international.

Semi Ajayi focuses on Fulham challenge

Hull’s attention has now shifted to their upcoming meeting with Fulham. Ajayi expects another difficult contest against opponents with a different tactical approach.

“It’s just another game that we need to win, and we want to pick up points,” Ajayi said.

“Every single game is going to be tough this year. We know that every team plays differently, so we’ll approach that game with a new game plan and try to get as many points as we can.”

Hull will hope their defensive organisation and attacking threat can deliver another positive result.

For Ajayi, the priority remains collective progress rather than individual recognition. The defender believes Hull must continue working hard if they want to turn their promising opening into a successful Premier League campaign.
