Nigeria’s Super Falcons secured a place in the third round of the 2028 Olympic qualifiers after defeating Comoros 5-0 in Ikenne, Ogun State, on Tuesday. Uchenna Kanu and Toni Payne scored twice each, while Christy Ucheibe added another goal, Bold Sports reports.
The victory completed a 7-0 aggregate triumph for Nigeria. Kanu and Payne both scored twice in the second leg, underlining their contributions to the team’s attacking performance. The Super Falcons will now face Morocco in the next round, scheduled for early 2027.
Payne breaks the deadlock before half-time
Nigeria controlled much of the contest at the Remo Stars home ground. However, the opening goal arrived in the 41st minute.
Kanu capitalised on a defensive error before squaring the ball to Payne. The Inter Milan Femeni forward finished the opportunity to give Nigeria a 1-0 lead at half-time.

The Super Falcons continued their attacking pressure after the restart. In the 58th minute, Kanu doubled Nigeria’s advantage with a header from a Folashade Ijamilusi cross.
The Cruz Azul Femenil forward nearly scored again three minutes later. She connected with another Ijamilusi delivery, but the referee ruled out her effort for offside.
Super Falcons pull further ahead
Payne restored Nigeria’s momentum in the 63rd minute. Blessing Okpe dribbled past two Comoros defenders before setting up the midfielder, who calmly finished her second goal of the match.
Kanu followed three minutes later to complete her brace. Ijamilusi supplied another inviting cross, and the 29-year-old forward converted to make it 4-0.

Nigeria continued to threaten the Comoros defence as the match progressed. Okpe won a penalty after an opponent fouled her inside the box.
Ucheibe stepped up in the 71st minute and converted from the spot. Her goal completed Nigeria’s 5-0 victory on the day.
Nigeria prepare for Morocco test
The Super Falcons have now advanced to the third round of the African qualifying competition for the 2028 Olympic women’s football tournament.
Their 7-0 aggregate victory over Comoros sets up a meeting with Morocco in the next stage. The tie will take place early next year.
Nigeria will aim to maintain their progress as they pursue qualification for the Olympic Games. Their emphatic performance in Ikenne also provided a convincing finish to the two-legged encounter.
