Paul Onuachu and Chibuike Nwaiwu will have a new coach at Trabzonspor. The Turkish club has ended its relationship with Fatih Tekke by mutual agreement.
Trabzonspor announced the decision on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. Vice President Serkan Kılıç met Tekke to assess the team’s situation and future direction. Both parties then agreed to separate in the club’s best interests.
Onuachu starts new season without a goal
The coaching change comes during a difficult period for Trabzonspor. Onuachu enjoyed a standout 2025/26 campaign under Tekke. The Nigerian striker scored 22 goals in 30 Süper Lig appearances.
That form earned him the Turkish top-flight Golden Boot. However, Onuachu has yet to score this season. His quieter start adds another storyline to Trabzonspor’s coaching change.
The club also endured a disappointing European campaign. Trabzonspor suffered a 4-0 defeat to Ferencvaros in the second leg of their Europa League play-off. The result sent them out 5-0 on aggregate.
Tekke later offered his resignation. Trabzonspor initially rejected that resignation. The club has now confirmed a mutual departure.
Tekke leaves after Turkish Cup success
Tekke spent approximately 18 months in charge of Trabzonspor. During that period, he helped develop several players in the squad.

He also delivered major success for the club. Tekke guided Trabzonspor to the Turkish Cup. The achievement further strengthened his place in the club’s history.
Trabzonspor also credited him with sporting and economic contributions. The club highlighted his role in improving players brought into the squad.
The club said Tekke wanted Trabzonspor’s interests to come first.
“he would never allow his presence to harm Trabzonspor in any way”
Trabzonspor said both sides understood that the club needed a new roadmap. The decision now leaves Onuachu and Nwaiwu preparing to work under a new manager.
What comes next for Onuachu and Nwaiwu?
The coaching change creates a fresh start for both Nigerian players. Onuachu will look to rediscover his scoring touch under the incoming coach.
His previous season gives the new manager a clear reference point. Twenty-two league goals showed his attacking value.
Nwaiwu will also begin a new chapter at the club. However, the supplied information does not provide recent statistics for the Nigerian midfielder.
Trabzonspor thanked Tekke for his dedication and achievements. The club also wished him success in his future career.
The Turkish side said it would remember him with respect. His Turkish Cup triumph remains a major part of his Trabzonspor legacy.
