‎Emmanuel Airoboma signs for Burnley U21 after successful trial‎

Nigeria-eligible defender Emmanuel Airoboma has joined Burnley after impressing during a trial with the club’s U21 squad. He signed a one-year contract that runs until summer 2027, with Burnley holding a 12-month extension option.

‎Airoboma recently scored in Burnley’s Lancashire FA Senior Cup final victory over Blackburn Rovers. That performance helped strengthen his case during his trial. He now joins Burnley’s U21 group as he looks to continue his development.

‎The defender spent his formative years at Liverpool. He joined the Reds’ academy at U12 level after playing grassroots football. Liverpool later handed him his first professional contract in September 2025.

‎Airoboma featured regularly for Liverpool’s youth teams. He made 12 appearances in the U18 Premier League before moving into the club’s development setup. He also played in the UEFA Youth League during his final season at Anfield.

‎Liverpool confirmed his departure after his contract expired on June 30, 2026. He was among the Nigeria-eligible academy players released by the Premier League champions.

‎After completing his move, Airoboma explained the qualities he wants to bring to Burnley.

‎“It’s good to be here.

‎“Burnley is a big club, so it’s a good place for me to be develop and hopefully push on.

‎“The facilities are very good, and all of the staff have been really nice, so it’s been easy to settle in.

‎“I like to progress the ball, be aggressive, and win my one-on-one duels. I pride myself on that and I look forward to playing against the best players in the country.”

‎Airoboma can operate at centre-back and right-back. Liverpool previously highlighted that versatility when announcing his first professional contract.

‎Burnley Academy Manager Chris Casper praised the defender after his trial.

‎“Emmanuel has impressed us during his trial, so we’re delighted to formally welcome him to the Club.

‎“He has a strong physical profile and is comfortable on the ball at the back, so I look forward to seeing how he gets on this season.”

‎The move gives Airoboma another opportunity to develop in English football. He will now compete for a place within Burnley’s U21 setup.

‎For Nigerian football followers, his progress will also remain worth monitoring. His experience at Liverpool has already exposed him to high-level youth competition. Burnley now offers him a fresh platform to take the next step.
