Yira Sor has completed a permanent transfer to ambitious Super Lig newcomers Amedspor from Belgian side Genk, the Turkish club announced on Monday.

The 26-year-old becomes the second Nigerian to join Amedspor during the current summer transfer window, following the arrival of compatriot Gift Orban, who joined the newly promoted club on loan from German Bundesliga side Hoffenheim.

Sor’s move brings an end to his three-and-a-half-year spell with Genk, where he established himself as an important member of the squad.

Since joining the Belgian club in December 2022, the winger made 119 appearances across competitions, scoring 17 goals and providing eight assists.

His performances in Belgium also earned him international recognition, with Sor making his debut for the Super Eagles in a friendly against Jordan during the March international break.

Before his move to Genk, Sor spent time in the Czech Republic with Slavia Prague, where he made 26 appearances and contributed nine goals and three assists before departing in 2022.

He had earlier featured for Baník Ostrava after joining the Czech First League club in February 2021. During his time with the club, Sor made 29 senior-team appearances, scoring four goals and registering six assists.

The winger began his football journey in Nigeria with Port Harcourt-based Family Love Academy before moving to Lagos club 36 Lion, where his performances earned him a move to Europe.

At Amedspor, Sor will join Orban, with the two Nigerians expected to play key roles as the club prepares for its first-ever campaign in the Turkish Super Lig.

Amedspor will open their league campaign on Sunday when they host fellow newcomers Erzurumspor, with Sor and Orban set to provide an additional attacking threat for the ambitious Turkish side.
