Nigeria’s Super Falcons will aim to secure a place in the third round of the African qualifiers for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games when they face Comoros on Tuesday, October 13, Bold Sports reports.

The 10-time African champions hold a 2-0 advantage after their first-leg victory at Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo on Friday. Michelle Alozie and Uchenna Kanu scored after half-time to put Nigeria in a strong position ahead of the return fixture.

Alozie and Kanu give Nigeria the advantage

Alozie opened the scoring in the 48th minute before Kanu doubled Nigeria’s lead in the 60th minute. Their goals rewarded Nigeria’s attacking pressure and gave interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen a winning start.

The Super Falcons are pursuing consecutive Olympic appearances after returning to the competition at Paris 2024. That tournament ended a 16-year absence from the women’s Olympic football event. Nigeria must navigate the remaining qualifying rounds to secure one of Africa’s two available places at Los Angeles 2028.

Eguavoen considers changes for return leg

Nigeria could rotate their starting lineup as the coaching staff assess their options for Tuesday’s encounter.

Goalkeeper Christiana Uzoma is among the alternatives available to Eguavoen. Farida Abdulwahab and Tumininu Adeshina could also feature in defence.

Meanwhile, Suliat Abideen impressed after entering the first leg in the second half. Her performance could earn her a starting place.

Nigeria also have attacking options in former U17 captain Shakirat Moshood and Folashade Ijamilusi. Blessing Nkor and Blessing Okpe, who play in Belarus, are available alongside Sweden-based forward Joy Omewa.

However, the coaching staff must balance squad rotation with the need to complete the job. A disciplined performance would prevent Comoros from mounting a comeback.

Morocco awaits in the next round

Both legs of the tie take place at Remo Stars Stadium because Comoros lack a CAF-approved venue for international matches. Nigeria therefore have home advantage for both fixtures.

Victory over the two legs would send the Super Falcons into the third round. Morocco awaits Nigeria at that stage, with the qualifying window scheduled for February 23 to March 6, 2027.

The immediate task, however, remains Comoros. Nigeria must protect their two-goal advantage before turning their attention to the next stage of the Olympic qualifying campaign.
