Nigerian boxing star Lekan Muibi has reacted to Godday Appah’s withdrawal from their highly anticipated showdown, scheduled for July 31 in Lagos and to be broadcast live on DAZN.
Muibi, who boasts an unbeaten 20-0 professional record with 19 knockouts, was set to move up in weight to challenge Appah for the WBO Africa cruiserweight title. Appah, who holds a 15-2 record with 13 knockouts, claimed the regional belt in May after edging Ezra Arenyeka by majority decision.
However, the bout has now been postponed after Appah reportedly sustained an injury during training.
In an official statement released by Quadriga Sports Management, Muibi’s team wished Appah a full and speedy recovery while expressing confidence that the fight will eventually take place once the champion returns to full fitness.
“We understand that injuries are a part of this sport and we wish him a speedy and full recovery,” the statement read. “We hope that upon his return, he will not shy away from the open challenge we issued him and will remain committed to making the fight happen at the earliest possible date.”

The management also thanked Dr. Ezekiel Adamu and Balmoral Promotions for their efforts in organizing what had been billed as one of Nigeria’s biggest domestic boxing clashes.
Despite investing significant resources into preparations for the contest, Quadriga Sports Management described the postponement as “a slight delay caused by force majeure” and assured fans that Muibi remains ready for action.
“Quadriga Sports Management will ensure that Lekan Muibi is primed and ready to go once a new date is announced,” the statement added.
The management also sought to reassure boxing fans that the reigning Nigerian and West African light heavyweight champion remains in peak condition and is eager to face any opponent.
“Fans can rest assured that ‘The Engine’ is firing on all cylinders and more than capable of meeting any opposition whenever and wherever. We can guarantee you will see him in action at the earliest possible opportunity.”
The postponement is a setback for Nigerian boxing fans who had eagerly anticipated the clash between two of the country’s top fighters, but Lekan Muibi’s camp remains optimistic that the contest will be rescheduled once Appah has recovered.
